A masterpiece directed by Wong Kar-Wai following two different storylines about love, and four different characters who are filled with loneliness.

The initial storyline is more heavily focused on the separate lives of the police officer and the woman in the blonde wig as they live their completely different lives, but it is a story of chance where a brief meeting between two strangers can completely alter your life.

The second story, follows a different police officer and a young woman who falls for him from behind the food counter that she serves him at. A more light-hearted story than the first, but one with equal amounts of love, loneliness and heartbreak that makes them pair together perfectly.

The kinetic energy brought by Wong Kar-Wai's direction and Christopher Doyle's cinematography is unlike anything ever seen from a romantic film, and certainly not from any western film. It is only exemplified by the raw and seemingly improvised performances, with the standout performer being Faye Wong.
